Derby Seniors Introduction

Welcome to the Seniors Section of the Derby RFC website. Here you'll find lots of information covering Fixtures & Results, Match Reports, Team Selections, Fixture Directions and Physio Services.

We run 7 Senior sides: 1st XV, 2nd XV, 3rd XV, 4th XV, Vets XV, Colts XV and a Ladies XV. For information about the Ladies XV please visit the Ladies Section on our website and for info on the Colts please visit the Colts Section on our website.

The 1st XV have played at level 5 or 6 in the RFU League structure since the inception of the leagues in the late 1980s, with the titles of those leagues changing regularly with RFU reorganisations. Having had 2 good seasons in succession we are looking to improve further with a strong side built around young local players, many of whom have come through the club’s excellent Mini and Junior / Colts set up.

The 2nd XV will be returning to the Notts Pennant this year as the new league they played in last year did not work too well with many sides failing to fulfil fixtures.

We are looking to improve the standard of the the 3rd XV this season by getting more players training and making sure we cater for them at training. This way players moving out of the Colts set-up, who may not yet be up to the standard required for the 1st and 2nd XV, can continue to enjoy rugby with players playing with a structure and decent fitness levels.

The 4th team play for fun but also manage to pick up plenty of wins in the Notts Pennant and have an uncanny knack of finding quality ‘ringers’ when necessary.

The Vets keep a “Corinthian spirit” in the club with away trips in the Benz-Bavarian bus, stop-offs at decent watering holes on the way back and sing-songs back at the club. But they are also very competitive having won or come 2nd in their Notts Pennant league in the last 4 seasons.

For the 2011/12 season Head Coach is Paul McCartin, assisted by Mark Bradley, Ed Hutchinson, Richard Robinson, Dave Price, Elliot Spencer and Matt Bates.
