Another season dawns and I am again delighted to extend a very
warm welcome to all parents, players and supporters alike,
whether you are returning to the club for the new season or
joining us as a new recruit. I hope that you will join with me
in enjoying and contributing to the forthcoming season and that
we can all share and contribute to what I hope will be another
great season of rugby. Above all, however, I would ask everyone
to ensure that they support the game, the players and the club
in a positive manner to ensure that we achieve the absolute
maximum enjoyment and camaraderie for all those involved in this
great game of ours !
Last season was indeed a very successful year for the section
throughout the age groups, particularly in respect to our
achievements in the various NLD competitions. We were well
represented at County level, NLD Schools of Rugby and indeed had
players competing in trials for NLD and Leicester Tiger squads.
This success, however, is not just down to the players but the
host of coaches, managers, parents and volunteers, to whom I
extend my sincere gratitude. I would also like to offer thanks
to my Committee members of last season and offer a warm welcome
to those joining the committee for the forthcoming season, with
who I look forward to working alongside.
Now for a plea ! Halsams, the Home of Derby Rugby Club, and your
section (!), continues to age and is increasingly requiring
maintenance and redecoration, funds for which are scarce to say
the least ! Therefore, it is imperative that we take ownership
and all contribute to the on-going upkeep of the club in
whatever way we can. So, those of you wishing to get more
involved in supporting the section, please stick your hand up !
There are several opportunities to volunteer your help so please
feel free to speak to either myself or any other committee
members – its your club………look after it ! One of the easiest
ways to contribute to this is to ensure that playing kit is not
worn upstairs in the clubhouse.
I would also ask that you take time out to support your Club, as
no matter how successful or otherwise we may be as a section, we
would not have a club without the senior sides at Derby. Your
support on a match day in getting behind the senior sides, and
maybe even enjoying the clubhouse afterwards, will all
contribute in the future success of the club.
Finally, I hope that all players have an exciting and injury
free season and that everyone enjoys their rugby !
